Well--I dragged my 109 into the garage from the backyard the other day. Wanted to do it before the grass got up to the bottom of the chassis rails and the neighbors formed a lynch mob. Seems one of the gearboxes got sick and tired of all the abuse and neglect and quit 3 weeks ago. Don't know which gearbox is knackered...Just a pop while reversing. Couldn't reverse any farther, it was jammed, so I drove forward 5 feet before it jammed in that direction too. Pushed the yellow...

Saddle tanks running foul of the toe panel S3 SW 109

When i go to place the side tank on the left side (RHD vehicle) it pushes the toe panel back and away from the B column a good 2" or so. The tank im using is 552328 in the optional equipment catalog. The chassis is Ex Mod FFR now with station wagon body, with the fuel tank out rigger being welded on (factory looking) and is 624042 so that it has that lip along the front edge so you can only slide the tank so far forward.

What i would like to know is there some kind of variation...

It's been a long in coming. My father has finally decided to let me take up a section of his old equipment shop.

One thing I could use some advice on is the tub. How do you take it off? Where are all the bolts and how hard is it to do?

This is my latest 109 project, a 1981 SIII. It is nearly complete, just waiting on a few wiring mods, replumb of the steel front brake lines, cubby box build, new seat covers and state inspection. Ordered from Ike are a winch bumper and 8274 winch, sliders and ex-MOD capping mounted roll bar. It has a few Defender interior mods to the dash and has Defender seats. I spun the steering column tube around to put the turn signal stalk on the left and mounted a matching MGB wiper switch on the...

Rover Project

Posted this on RN also. Thought I would share a Rover Project I took in to the shop. This truck was imported from overseas and sold to the current owner. I think we all know how that goes. It has been sitting for several years and now he wants it back on the road again. He is not looking for a "show truck" just a solid reliable truck to be driven on and off road. I have put together some pics of the project and will try to keep it updated as I go.

It took a long time. (I started with the help of Elton on February 24.) But between work and family, I was finally able to remove the dented up pieces of cruddy aluminum and replace them with great hunks of solid steel.

A little history.

What I have is a 1974 Ex Norwegian Military Former FFR 109 3 door. It has a full hard top with the fume curtain.
The 109's engine was shot, the frame was shot, and the transmission and transfercase are iffy. What did I buy? What am I doing?
After sulking for a few hours in the corner. I took another look at my Rover and decided to start searching on the internet. I found lots of info and lots of advice. So I decided to do something with it....

Rolling chassis

I was hoping to get the motor/tranny/t-case in the frame by March 1st. I'm skipping work tomorrow to go skiing so I guess that's not going to happen. Oh well, there's always next week.

Anyway, this is the progress I've made in the past two nights. Springs and axles. Steering box will go in next followed by the engine and drive shafts. I need to get a fuel tank mounted, fuel and brake lines run and the bulkhead mounted and then I can fabricate the exhaust.

The goal is to turn the barn in to a multi function shop. Automotive, bicycle, wood working, metal working, and storage.

Roll Cage Project

About two years ago, at the Denver Conclave, I bought the foundation for my roll cage off a fellow in Wyoming (Does anybody have his email?). It's taken me a while, but I finally started to do something with it. The work from early January. The tubing was bent perfectly, in fact, it was within more than .125" tolerance in all dimensions.

Tubing is 2" OD .125" wall DOM. Feet are .25" cold roll. Feet are "D" in shape and the holes have not been drilled,...

Front axle

A little slow around here so I thought I'd post a picture.
109 axle w/3" brakes, Toyota 4:10 e-locker, 30-spline inner shafts and 24-spline outer shafts. I'll finish up the rear in the next couple of days and I can start putting the chassis together.
